Mara Davis Joins the Bert Show To Talk Atlanta’s Most Ridiculous Dishes

The sublime burger uses doughnuts instead of burger buns and is available at Cypress Street Pint and Plate

You know those dishes – the ones on the menu that say, “dish serves 4 people” and are SO outrageous they’re made for Instagram.  Mara joined the Bert Show this walk to highlight some of her favorites around Atlanta, including The Sublime Donut Burger at Cypress Street Pint and Plate.  Read below for more or click play in the Soundcloud embed below to hear the entire segment!

“So when vacation happens a lot of people like to go outside. For me it’s all about the great indoors, like I like to stay in, and binge watch a million shows…So when I was binge watching the show “Billions” which is such a great show…Did you guys catch that there was a reference to Atlanta to Ann’s Snack Bar in the show Billions?… They’re (Wags and Axe) out on the balcony and the chef comes out and says, “ I brought you the ‘Ghetto Burger’ from Ann’s Snack Bar.” Remember we were doing a deal with Killer Mike and we ate at Ann’s Snack bar and that Ann’s from Ann’s Snack Bar, which is a legendary place, they have the Ghetto Burger, which is like chili, and bacon, and cheese, I mean it’s a straight up ARTERY CLOGGER, but like one of the best burgers in town. Its been written about in the Wall Street Journal. But when I saw it on Billions I’m like DAMN they did their research, so you can get that. Actually it’s a double bacon chili cheeseburger with a secret ingredient, and another one of their burgers is called the ‘Hood Burger’ with coleslaw on it and you can get that at Ann’s Snack Bar, and now you can say you saw it on Billions.“

“Alright, let’s try the ‘Triple Coronary Bypass Burger’ at the Vortex. Okay so this is $29 bucks, BUT it’s super stacked, so three half pound burger patties, three fried eggs, 14 slices of American cheese…Ten bacon slices and the bun is actually a bunch of grilled cheese sandwiches served in a bowl of fries and covered in tater tots and cheese.”

“You know there’s the ‘Sublime Donut Donut Burger’ that they have at Cyper Street Pint and Plate which is REALLY popular. It’s two donuts and a half-pound of beef, with bacon, caramelized onions and sharp cheddar cheese. And you know what’s so cool is Sublime is now we’re back in ice cream cone season…So, Sublime donuts have this new thing, it’s a donut ice cream cone, so let me explain this to you because it’s something completely different…It’s a sugarcoated, soft spiral device for hand-to-mouth ice cream delivery; it’s an ice cream cone pastry. Its like half donut, half cone, so he dips it in hot oil, the donut, instead of a fried donut and he coats it with chocolate. And you can have ice cream in that. So it’s a donut cone.”

Mara also mentions the Beer and Tasting BBQ at Park Tavern, benefitting the Atlanta Legal Aid Society and Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, which you can access here.
