Deciding on where to eat can be tough in a city as full of great spots as ours. That’s why, every Tuesday we’re making the call, and giving you the inside scoop. This week’s Great Call is Kimball House.
When You’re Going
It is with sheer giddiness we can say that the South has seen an insurgence of oyster houses in the last few years. And the oyster program at Kimball House is leading the charge in the Atlanta area, if not the South. And the best time to really explore the oyster menu is from 5pm – 7pm. This is when oyster happy hour takes over the bar and the briny little numbers are only $1-$1.50 a piece.
Where You’re Sitting
We often say that the bar is the best place to sit, and nowhere is that truer than Kimball House. Now, admittedly you may have to sit at the bar, as they do not take reservations, but you’ll be fully immersed in the beauty of the space. Plus you get a front row seat for the making of some of the most ingenious cocktails in town.
What’s in Your Glass
You know those ingenious cocktails we were just talking about? Yeah, get one of those. The list is constantly rotating, but recent cocktails have included Campari ice cubed cocktails and playful riffs on classic drinks. But be sure not to sleep on the draft list. While small, it is incredibly deep and has featured rare brews that would impress anybody who loves beer.
What’s On Your Plate
It would be easy, very easy, to stay on the oyster and drink menus while here. But, don’t do that. Seriously, don’t. The menu rotates often, and the best advice we can give is to trust these guys. Ask for a recommendation and you’ll be in Heaven. Everything from pate to charcuterie to a lobster and artichoke tarte has blown us away. It may seem like a cop out to say everything is good, but that is just how head over heels we are with this little Decatur spot.
