What I Eat

Community Q BBQ — Owner David Roberts

Pura Vida on Highland Avenue is one of David’s favorite places to eat — sometimes you just gotta have steamed pork buns, and Chef Hector Santiago (who you may remember from Top Chef Season 7) has the best buns in town. Wait, that doesn’t sound like I meant it to sound.

A little closer to David’s own BBQ spot is Shorty’s Pizza, and if you find yourself at their locations on North Druid Hills or Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker, stop in for a show-stopping Cuban sandwich. David’s a local guy, too, and recommends dropping into a local legend in Tucker: Matthews Cafeteria.

Rathbun’s — Chef/Owner Kevin Rathbun

In the 17 years that Chef Rathbun has been in Atlanta, he’s seen a lot of changes. Dining has exploded in our city, from new restaurants to great chefs, to new restaurants owned and run by great chefs…and that’s something that Kevin thinks is just sexy because it puts Atlanta on the map as a city that loves its dining.

Bone Garden Cantina — Executive Chef Mark Nanna

You’ll catch Mark enjoying farm to table fare at One Eared Stag on Edgewood Avenue, or chowing down at Pura Vida (two recommendations in the same show, you know it’s got to be good). Mark even gives us a dish worth the drive — if you’re heading down to Jonesboro, be sure to point your wheels in the direction of Taqueria La Oaxaquena on Mt. Zion Road.
