Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse

A mall is no place for a steakhouse. Or so you might think. Buckhead, though, has two exceptions to the rule: Lenox has Prime, and Phipps has Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse.

Davios has the kind of timeless decor and ambiance you’d expect to find at a high-end steakhouse in any of America’s great dining cities. Dimmed lighting, but not too dim; friendly servers, but not overly-friendly. You’re not likely to be surprised by anything on the menu at Davio’s — it’s high quality pasta and surf and turf — but surprises aren’t why people dine at steakhouses. The food is good, consistent, and exactly what you’re hungry for when you step through the door.

The cheapest salad on the menu is probably the best — bright, peppery, baby arugula, topped with shaved parmigiano, and finished with a zing of lemon olive oil. It’s the perfect appetizer to wake up your palate.

At the other end of the price scale on the menu there’s fresh Maine lobster risotto, served with asparagus, fresh herbs, and lobster cream. It’s easy to prepare risotto too al dente or too mushy, but Davio’s consistently get it with just the right amount of bite.
