Atlanta Fish Market
No surprises here, it’s fish on the menu, and there’s no mistaking the giant fish sculpture outside this legendary Buckhead eatery, whose building is based on a 1920s Savannah railroad station. Located on Pharr Road in the center of Buckhead, Atlanta Fish Market has long been a destination for the well-heeled taste-makers of Atlanta. Fish is flown in daily, and the number of species available is mind-boggling.
Executive chef Robert Holley wanted to be a marine biologist before he turned his attention to cooking seafood at Le Bernadin in Miami, then Brasserie La Coze, also in Miami, before moving to Atlanta to open the Brasserie La Coze in Buckhead. Chef Holley celebrated 10 years leading AFM this year.
The Fish Market’s dining room brings to mind dining rooms on cruise ships, which fits the seafood menu, while a giant mural of fish sitting at a bar lightens the mood. Upstairs there’s a private dining room — white table cloths and leaded glass lighting in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright make this a stylish room for a reception, bar mitzvah, or anniversary party.
