Local hometown distillery American Spirit Works (ASW) has long been known for crafting some of the finest whiskeys and spirits in town.  But now, American Spirit Works has shifted gears and is doing their part to help the community combat COVID-19 by distilling hand sanitizer to hospitals, nonprofits, and other frontline workers. Businesses that are working together with ASW to make this initiative possible include Jamestown Properties, Cox Enterprises, Garnish & Gather, and Iberia Bank.

“We’ve worked out a pretty cool program,” said Chad Ralston, ASW’s Chief Marketing Officer. “We have corporate sponsors who are buying hand sanitizer at a premium, so that we’re able to donate to hospitals. This has allowed us to then put together a lot of hand sanitizer for the likes of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Giving Kitchen, WellStar Kennestone’s Emergency Room, and Piedmont Hospital.”

Aside from those hospitals and nonprofits, ASW has additionally donated hand sanitizer to Hall County Schools student meal delivery, Open Hand Atlanta’s meal delivery services to vulnerable populations in Atlanta, Covenant House, Shepherd Center, and more.

On a smaller scale, ASW also has a “buy one, give one” policy for individuals.

“Through the tasting room… for every 5.8 oz bottle that’s purchased, we’re donating the equivalent amount to a nonprofit or hospital we are working with,” said Ralston.  ASW is currently able to make about 100 bottles per day, with a 2 sanitizer limit per person. Supplies are extremely limited, but ASW restocks hand sanitizer every evening at 7:30pm for individual purchase.

To support American Spirit Work’s efforts, if you are of legal drinking age, you can purchase ASW products at most local liquor stores as well as for pickup in ASW’s Tasting Room at 199 Armour Drive in Atlanta, Georgia.

Atlanta Eats has a collection of cocktail recipes available, created by the city’s best bartenders, including a recipe called “The Pioneer” with American Spirit Works’ Duality Double Malt Whiskey as a key ingredient for those who would like to support ASW’s efforts with a fantastic drink at home.

Additionally, American Spirit Works’ Cask Strength Maris Otter Single Malt was just named the World’s Best Craft Whiskey for 2020 at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

“With restaurants and bars obviously being closed [for dine in], those are our lifelines,” said Chad Ralston.
