Buttery, beautiful crab legs can be a “special occasion” kind of dish – you’re either digging in during a date night, graduation dinner, or if you’re on vacation.  But for some folks, crab legs are a year-round dish, where the special occasion might be a day that ends in “y”.  We’ve come up with a list of great places around Atlanta where you can dig into crab legs – whether it’s your classic cold bar approach, your beachside bar-style crab legs, or a cajun seafood boil crab leg.

At BonTon the vibe is kooky but the food is classy.  With Cajun-Vietnamese influences across the whole menu, you can get crab legs served alongside boiled potatoes and corn for something classic.  If you’re looking to be more adventurous with your shellfish, try the charbroiled crab claws with garlic herb butter to start, or the smoked snow crab served with drawn butter.

Girl Diver is a relative newcomer to the East Side’s dining scene, but a welcome one. With multiple dips and seasonings for their Snow Crab and Alaskan King Crab options, they have something for every palate – Old Bay, Green Curry, Garlic Butter, Cocktail Sauce, and their “Girl Diver Special” are all excellent options. They’ve got great bartenders and an impressive drink menu – cocktails and crab nights are always a good time at Girl Diver.

This black-owned seafood place is led by an iconic dynamic trio: mother Kimberly Knox and her daughters McKenzie and Madison. You have to try their Infusion Snow Bowl which includes 1 pound of clusters (Snow Crab size 8-10), served with 2 corn, potato, and 2 eggs. With your choice of Seasoning: B.B.Q, Cajun, Garlic Butter, Kenzie’s Infusion Mix, Jerk, Curry, or Lemon Pepper (Kenzie’s Infusion Mix is everything above except lemon pepper, curry, and BBQ).

 

6. Juicy Crab

Juicy Crab has quickly become ATL’s go-to crab boil in a bag restaurant. With multiple locations throughout the metro Atlanta area, there’s likely one less than a 15-minute drive from where you live. In addition to tons of other shellfish options, you can get snow crab legs, Dungeness, and king crab legs, along with whole blue crabs.

While Krab Queens isn’t an Atlanta-based restaurant, its origins are authentic – it started in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Founder Tonique Clay wanted to create a crabs and daiquiris focus menu, and it took off with additional locations in Houston, Atlanta, Jackson, and Hattiesburg. They claim to have the “best damn butter sauce” and they’re not wrong – it’s excellent. They’ve got excellent colossal snow crabs, perfect for posting something to the gram from dinner.

Cajuns and Asians don’t have a monopoly on crab – lots of cultures make a mouthwatering boil. At Mariscos el Malecon, you can get some of the best crab legs in Atlanta, marinated in Latin flavors and spices. Another excellent Latin-focused seafood spot, Marisqueria El Veneno focuses on food in “Estilo Nayarit”, meaning inspired by the region of Nayarit in Mexico. A tourist destination thanks to its beautiful beaches and Aztec ruins, the seafood in Nayarit is excellent, and El Veneno has brought the flavors of Mexican seafood to Buford Highway.

Located in Cumberland Square North, this new and hot cajun seafood boil spot is taking over Atlanta, and for good reason. Enjoy great Louisiana cajun seafood boil tossed and bagged in signature Vietnamese garlic butter seasoning sauce. This trendy urban vibe restaurant serves quality food, drinks, and service and (of course) amazing crab legs!

You can’t miss this popular gastropub if you’re walking anywhere on Memorial near Grant Park. With one of the City’s best roof decks, they’ve been churning out delicious boils, buckets of beer, and crab legs for years. The garlic butter is excellent and goes great with their andouille sausage as part of a snow crab boil – enjoy solo or with a friend. They have a second location in West Midtown.

This East Point crab-forward classic restaurant has been in operation since 1979 – and it’s just as popular today. The big appeal is their buckets – they have steamed seafood buckets with Alaskan King crab and snow crab – along with other shellfish – served with a glorious garlic butter. They’re open until 4 am, so you can get your shellfish with a side of saucy social interaction.
