Charred Blood Orange Whiskey Sour Recipe

We’ve launched a new digital show called “The Mix” featuring fantastic, creative, yet easy drink recipes that you can make at home! Check out this Charred Blood Orange Whiskey Sour recipe, a favorite amongst whiskey lovers and non-whisky lovers alike. The cocktail is made with Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey from Jack Daniels, which is filtered twice through sugar maple charcoal – once before it goes into the cask and once before it goes into the bottle. This makes the spirit “Double Mellowed,” much like our new hosts (Atlanta Eats’ Julie Smith and mixologist Phil Armijo) might be after having a couple of these delicious whiskey sours.

Ingredients

2 oz Gentleman Jack
1 tsp Lemon Juice
1 tsp Simple Syrup
1 Luxardo Maraschino Cherry
1 Blood Orange

Recipe

Step 1: Cut blood orange in half and then slice one of the halves into a few orange wheels. Cover the wheels & half orange in granulated sugar. Caramelize sugar in oven in broiler at 500 degrees for 5 minutes or use blowtorch.

Step 2: Cut lemon into quarter wedges and squeeze one quarter into shaker of ice filled 3/4 with ice.

Step 3: Add 2 oz of Gentleman Jack

Step 4: Squeeze the juice from the other half of blood orange (approx 1 oz) into shaker with ice.

Step 5: Add 1 tsp of simple syrup

Step 6: Shake vigorously until ice breaks up and frost appears around the tin.

Step 7: Strain drink into rocks glass filled with ice.

Step 8: Garnish with Luxardo maraschino cherry & mint
