The Best Deep Fried Dishes in Atlanta

There’s something about the exterior CRUNCH. The interior softness. The steam coming from inside. The best deep fried dishes in Atlanta are all battered beautifully and deep fried. Whether you’re looking for something sweet, savory or in between, we’re sharing a few of our favorites in our list here.

Churros from La Churreria in Buford Highway
La Churreria – Churros
3336 Buford Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30329
One of the best things about visiting Buford Highway is stopping for a Churro at La Churreria. Perfectly deep fried dough is dusted with a delicious cinnamon sugar for a crunchy, perfect bite with every stick. Try the caramel stuffed churros on your next visit for a totally different – and delicious – take on churros.

Deep fried chocolate chip cookie dough from Man V. Fries in Downtown Atlanta
Man V. Fries – Cookie Dough
104 Harris St NE, Atlanta, GA 30313
This pop-up concept is exploding multiple cities around the country, so you know Atlanta is going to get a taste. With a menu focused on fantastic French fries and mouthwatering burritos, the desserts are also next level. Our favorite is the Cookie dough, which is 4 chocolate chip cookie dough bites battered in Krusteaz sweet cream, topped with powdered sugar and a side of chocolate. They’re open on Harris street downtown, but also do delivery via Doordash, Uber Eats, et al and the food travels surprisingly well.

A corn dog from Original Hot Dog Factory
The Original Hot Dog Factory – Corn Dog
Multiple Locations
Another restaurant with locations throughout the country, the original hot dog factory is a modest but delicious new fast casual concept. They have tons of delicious hot dog options, along with great burgers, sandwiches and French fries/onion rings. They also make a mean corndog, which is as good if not better than that classic Carnival bite you’re looking for.

Deep fried twinkie from The Nook on Piedmont Park
The Nook – Twinkies
1144 Piedmont Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30309
It’s not something you eat every day or even every week, but when you bit into a deep fried Twinkies, there’s nothing like it. It’s the flavors of the classic pastry in one of the most unique textures you can eat. Get one at The Nook where they are masters of the deep fry – their “totchos” and fried Mac and cheese bites are top notch.

Arancini from Baffi in West Midtown, Atlanta
Baffi – Arancini
976 Brady Ave NW STE 110, Atlanta, GA 30318
Chef Jonathan Waxman took his shot at a casual Italian restaurant with Ponce City Market’s Brezza, but decided to relocate to the West Side and open Baffi. The menus for Baffi is very similar to Brezzas, which is a very good thing. Chef Waxman’s arancini (Italian fried orzo balls) are as good as ones you’d find anywhere in Italy.

Fried Green Tomatoes from Homegrown in Reynoldstown
Homegrown – Fried Green Tomatoes
We can’t do a list on best fried foods in a Southern City and not mention a place that makes fantastic Fried Green Tomatoes. Homegrown may best be known as a brunch spot that’s packed with hipsters from East Atlanta and Old Fourth Ward, but hipsters know good food. Homegrown has the best Southern brunch menu in the City of Atlanta and their Fried Green Tomatoes are crispy, juicy perfection.

Fried pickles from Lucky's Burger and Brew
Lucky’s – Fried pickles
Multiple Locations
With locations in Roswell, Brookhaven and Marietta, Lucky’s has managed to find the perfect formula and become a neighborhood bar in three different neighborhoods. That’s got a lot to do with Lucky’s great menu, including a smattering of great fried options. We love their fried pickles as a great starter for any meal you dig into there (but also don’t sleep on the dessert burger for a fantastic fried dessert – an ice cream sandwich made with a cookie and a brownie and served with churro fries on the side).

A tempura dish from Tomo in Buckhead
Tomo – Tempura
3630 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30326
One of Atlanta’s best sushi spots also makes a terrific tempura. This Buckhead based Japanese restaurant takes great care in their methods, and it shows in the vegetable and shrimp tempura. Perfectly battered and fried to crispy excellence, getting tempura from Tomo is a must before starting any meal.

Chicken Pakora from Chai Pani in Decatur.

Chai Pani – Pakoras
406 W Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA 30030
Meherwan Irani has always sought to make Indian food accessible to American palates, and he’s done that with his successful Chai Pani restaurants in Atlanta and Asheville. The crowd pleasing dish at both locations are his Kale Pakoras – they are fritters made with curried chickpea batter and served with green chutney and sweet yogurt. They also have a chicken version seasoned with Kashmiri spices for the meat lovers.

Empanadas from Golden Drop Cafe.

Golden Drops – Empanadas
1788 Clairmont Rd, Decatur, GA 30033
This Emory area coffee shop serves a highly caffeinated student base, but as a Dominican owned business, they make incredible empanadas, too. We love their picadillo with olives, but the Ham and Cheese is a great option for those a little less adventurous with the palate.
