Kirkwood Dining Guide

Tree lined streets, charming shops and bungalows beyond the eye can see – Kirkwood is a little paradise of walkability among the Atlanta sprawl. And with more and more out of towners coming to the city and looking for proximity to the east side, there’s no better place to look to settle down. We’ve highlighted some of the great places you can get a bite in this east side gem with our Kirkwood Dining Guide!

Pizza from La Calavera in Kirkwood
La Calavera Pizza

1696 Memorial Dr SE, Atlanta, GA 30317

For years, La Calavera operated as a Decatur based Mexican bakery, creating delicious sweet breads like the shell shaped concha pastry, along with savory options like fresh baked sourdough bread. They’ve since relocated some of that equipment to Memorial Drive at the edge of Kirkwood, held on to their sourdough knowledge and created one of the best pizzas in the Atlanta area. They use that sourdough crust as the base for great ingredients, including locally sourced vegetables and responsibly produced cheese and meat.

Evergreen Butcher and Bakers

2011 Hosea L Williams Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30317

We’ve written about this charming bakery and butcher shop in the heart of Kirkwood, but we should say once again – they make some of the best baked goods in the Atlanta area. With expertise in French baking methods and a history in high end kitchens, the husband and wife ownership team there are constantly putting out new recipes including one of the best burgers in Atlanta on the weekend.

Another downtown Kirkwood favorite, you can always find folks hanging out on their patio any night of the week, noshing on nachos and throwing back margaritas. While the atmosphere is top notch, the food ain’t bad either, particularly their burritos. With a playful approach to Mexican flavors, they have everything from a Migas Burrito, to a Tex-Mex Ranchero Burrito to a Thai Burrito. We’re also fans of the crab queso and pork skin starters as some of the best apps in the neighborhood.

Anna’s BBQ

1976 Hosea L Williams Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30317

For almost a decade, Anna Phelps has been making mouthwatering BBQ dishes that stack up to some of the best in the city – in fact, Atlanta Magazine voted is as their Best BBQ spot in 2019. Using old family recipes, Anna’s makes great chicken, pork, beef, turkey and more. Make sure you order one of their famous strawberry lemonades with your plate!

Le Petit Marche – French toast

Le Petit Marche

1984 Hosea L Williams Dr NE Ste. A, Atlanta, GA 30317

We’ve featured Le Petite Marche and owner Marche Sparks a number of times in our coverage, and with good reason – Le Petite Marche is one of Atlanta’s best brunch restaurants, hands down. Unfortunately, the pandemic caused the business to face some turbulence, but after finding new partners in Atlanta’s other famous brunch location, Atlanta Breakfast Club, Le Petit Marche has reopened and is still making their incredible French toast sandwich, grits stack and more.

If Kirkyard is Kirkwood’s sports bar, Bob and Harriet’s Home Bar is Kirkwood’s sit and talk bar. With a great ambiance and excellent cocktail selection, they’ve also got a solid, family friendly menu that’s great for dine in or to go. They might have one of ATL’s best Chicago dogs – they load up the relish and onions – along with an excellent Cuban sandwich.

Ribs from Wyatt's Country BBQ in Kirkwood

1674 Memorial Dr SE, Atlanta, GA 30317

If you’re a fan of rapper and tv personality Action Bronson, you may have caught Wyatt’s in the very first episode of his food travel series, F*ck that’s delicious. Wyatt’s Country BBQ, run by Oscar Wyatt, has been making incredible BBQ out of his humble Memorial Drive location for nearly 50 years and deserved the momentary spotlight. We’re spotlighting them here again for having one of the best Rib Dinner plates in the entire country, along with their vinegar/mustard based sauce.

Fried catfish from Southern Queens in Kirkwood
Southern Queenz

1648 Memorial Dr SE D, Atlanta, GA 30317

A relatively new comer to the neighborhood, Southern Queens is a black owned, soul food and all day breakfast location right on Memorial Drive. With a creative approach to cooking, they make some mouthwatering – and Instagrammable – dishes, like the Fruity Pebble French Toast, the Oreo Chicken and Waffles, and Southern Fried Chicken Nachos, along with classics like Oxtail, Catfish, and Red Velvet cake.
