If you happen to find yourself up I-985 near Gainesville, do yourself a favor and jump off the highway for lunch. This spot located just off Gainesville Square has been serving fresh baked bread and salads sourced from a farm in Lula, GA. Sure, they’re farm-to-table, but they don’t exactly brag about it. Here it’s just what they do, preparing great food from whatever food happens to be in season. Steaks? Cut in-house. Sausage? Ground and stuffed in the kitchen. Smoked meats? Prepped on-site. When it comes to having a small carbon footprint, 2 Dog Restaurant walks on it’s tippy-toes.
There’s plenty to do while you’re there, too. Through most of the year, Lake Lanier Islands has something going on, from concerts, to fun on the water, to Holiday lights in December. From early summer and throughout fall, the Atlanta Falcons train a few short miles away at their Flowery Branch facility, and many of those practices are open to the public.
