Looking for a meal that’s totally wow-inducing? These Atlanta restaurants are serving up some truly over-the-top dishes that are a feast for both your eyes and for your tastebuds.
1. Budi’s Sushi
Everything at this Downtown spot is incredible tasting, but their most over-the-top dish is definitely their sushi pyramid. With fresh avocado, three types of fresh fish, and wasabi flavored roe, the meal is just as delicious as it is beautiful!
There aren’t many Atlanta restaurants that have as passionate as a following as Big Dave’s Cheesesteak’s, and it’s for great reason! Derrick Hayes first opened up this spot in a Shell gas station, but now he’s got his own brick and mortar spot downtown that attracts lines everyday. Don’t miss out on his philly cheesesteak eggrolls either!
Woah. Big Pie in the Sky’s over-the-top pizzas are MASSIVE for massive appetites! Their Roswell location is closed, but you can still grab a slice at their original haunt in Kennesaw.
Have you ever seen a baked potato that looks like this ? The Royal Flush at Pit Boss BBQ in Hapeville is completely over-the-top and delicious. Order up some smoked wings, angus beef brisket, and mac and cheese and you’ll be in heaven.

You’re going to need to loosten up your BELTline for New Realm’s mac & cheese. We love New Realm for so many reasons. Their brews, their patio vibes, their stellar menu, but perhaps what we love most of all is their craveworthy and decadent mac and cheese. The cheesepull you get from this dish is always insane, and there really are not many things better in life than melted cheese.
Want to really go over-the-top? Just order one of everything from Jim ‘N Nicks BBQ. This BBQ chain with roots in Alabama fires up some solid, quality BBQ, with locations all around OTP Atlanta and they’re perfect for catering a backyard hang at home this summer. The hot links are a favorite!
Theres polen-ty to love about the White Bull, and they’ve just reopened June 9th for takeout or dine-in. The pasta is superb at this Decatur spot, but it’s their polenta parties that are an awesome over-the-top experience. Add this to your bucketlist to try once it’s safe again to gather in large groups.
Hattie Marie’s BBQ is bringing Texas style flavor to the College Park dining scene, cooked low and slow with a little bit of Louisiana influence too. Their jalapeño sausage and mac and cheese are absurdly good, but it’s their massive dino beef ribs that are over-the-top. Just the size of those things is absurd.
Everything at Cheesecaked is wow-inducing and crazy good! Expect over-the-top, massive milkshakes like their sugary Unicorn Milkshake and chocolate S’mores Milkshake. They’re almost too pretty to eat–almost. Cheesecaked is temporarily closed as the owner is fighting breast cancer and is recovering from surgery, but be sure to support her once she’s back in action!
Repeat after me: you’re BETTER than McDonald’s fries. Puncho’s Late Night Fry Trap’s over-the-top loaded fries is perfect for your late night munchies and far superior to any fast food joint you’d normally roll through. You’re gonna love The Bluff, with ranch covered crispy hot honey lemon pepper bites, as well as, The Buckhead, with fried cajun lobster bites on herb bay fries! Doesn’t get much more Atlanta than this.
The Sugar Factory’s famous King Kong Sundae is the definition of over-the-top. 24 scoops of ice cream, slices of cake, absurd amounts of candy. It’s just crazy, y’all. And the presentation of the ice cream is just as ridiculous. The lights are dimmed, the sundae is brought out topped with tons of sparklers, and waiters clap and sing for you. It’s great for a birthday celebration if you want to be super extra.
When you think over-the-top, the Vortex should come first to mind. Pick your poison–you can choose from a Single, Double, Triple, or Quadruple Coronary Bypass Burger. If you finish the Quadruple Coronary Burger in one sitting, you’ll even get to eat the meal for free. But the dish is so crazy, you’ll need to sign a waiver for it.
Nakato has been serving Japanese excellence for 45 years. But that doesn’t they mean they can’t still innovate. The Nakato chefs have created this eye-popping sushi cake that’s perfect for special celebrations or just a treat yourself type of evening. It’s beauty that you can eat!
14. Louisiana Bistreaux’s Crawtater Grouper
For the kind of meal you’re just not going to be able to put your fork down for, try Louisiana Bistreaux’ crawtater grouper. It’s major WOAH in one dish: fried grouper served over jalapeño grits with spinach, a creamy sauce, AND crawfish. Food coma = immediate. Locations in East Point, Decatur, and Buckhead!
