You wouldn’t initially think “tapas” when you think Atlanta, but it seems that the city really has taken to this type of cuisine imported from Spain. It feels like everyday a new spot is opening up where you can sip on sangria and gnosh on some patatas bravas, and we’re here to guide you exactly on where you can find the most tempting tapas around town.

While Atlanta may be the Capital of the South, we know we’ve got more Yanks than an unruly dog on a leash. But that’s not a bad thing at all – with all of the Northerners who have flocked down to the A over the last few decades, we’ve also gotten some great sandwich shops. The tradition of Northeastern sandwich shops in Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, New Jersey and other nearby locations is a rich history, with some sub shops going back over a hundred years.

With so many folks from abroad living in the A, surely they want a taste from home? Luckily, they can find it through the multitude of international bakeries around Atlanta. We’re highlighting a few of our favorites that should make each of their home countries proud.

Baseball fans, start your engines? There is a planned mash-up of two sports coming in 2025, as the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds are playing a regular season baseball game at NASCAR’s famous Bristol Motor Speedway. With the collision of two of the South’s favorite sports coming together, you better believe folks from the Delta, Appalachians, Lowcountry and more will be making their way to the mountains for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup. We’ve decided to pull together a few spots nearby the track whether you’re planning on a single, double or triple meal trip.

Katsu Sando is so much fun to say. It also happens to be delicious. The katsu “sand” is a street food staple in Japan, in addition to being sold at many convenience stores. It typically features a perfectly fried and breaded pork cutlet, dressed with tangy katsu sauce, with crunchy cabbage and sandwiched between milk bread spread with mayo.

Buttery biscuits, crispy fried chicken, and bomb BBQ is a given in a Southern metropolis like Atlanta, but what about mouthwatering regional delicacies like cheesesteaks from up north? Shabu Shabu – it’s not just fun to say, it’s a great way to enjoy your food. If you’ve had Chinese Hot Pot dinners, Shabu Shabu is similar – both feature meat, seafood and veggies in a delicious, bubbling broth. But Shabu Shabu is a little more interactive. You’re provided a plate of uncooked meat, veggies, dumplings, udon and more – it’s up to you to mix it exactly the way you want it. With a number of incredible Asian restaurants around Atlanta’s Buford Highway, Duluth, Gwinnett and other enclaves, it’s time to let Shabu Shabu shine.

There are a handful of dishes that can only be described as Southern. Fried green tomatoes, corn bread, sweet peas and everything from Soul Food to the Low Country covers the spectrum. But there’s one dish that’s been around for centuries and hasn’t changed too much since the Southern cookbooks it first started appearing in during the 1800’s – chicken salad.
